This is an anonymous review for obvious reasons, however I am a genuine patient who attended Marieta Hovey's dental clinic on a number of occasions. There were a number of aspects of the service provided that were unsatisfactory. First of all was her poor communication. Due to her accent, she can be difficult to understand at times, however she is also someone who just starts to do things without first explaining what she is doing, nor indeed gaining consent first. She told me I needed a mouthguard for night-time grinding and that I had better start saving as it was going to be very expensive (from memory, somewhere between $800 - $1000). I have seen many different dentists over the years, as well as a new dentist since I last saw Dr Hovey, and no other dentist has ever identified grinding as an issue. I am glad I didn't hand over the best part of $1000 for something unnecessary. I had a lot of discomfort following a filling she said was close to the nerve. Although I am certain I never had an infection in it, I was prescribed a course of antibiotics as a precaution against a *possible* infection. As I had stated very clearly, I did not want to take antibiotics on a precautionary basis - only if absolutely necessary. However, not wanting the risk of my developing an infection (given I was reporting pain and discomfort), she put me antiobiotics, but without clear communication as to why. She was unable to confirm that I did in fact have an infection. The pain did settle but not because I had an infection and the antibiotics were fighting it, but because fillings close to the nerve cause pain and discomfort which settles after a period of time. This, I discovered by my own research. Dr Hovey did some fillings on the external surfaces of a few of my side teeth, however the tops of them had an obvious "edge" I could put my fingernail into and one developed an brown spot after a short period of time. I went back to have it looked at, and without any communication at all, Dr Hovey makes to start doing work on them, requesting numbing agent from the assistant. At this point I asked her to stop; I was there only to have it looked at - at no time did I request anything to be done and as I had made a quick trip in during work, I did not have the time, nor did I want to be numb for the next 2-3 hours. I found the attitude of simply going ahead with whatever she wanted to do without first having the courtesy to discuss it with me quite an arrogant attitude. Instead of getting any further work done by Dr Hovey, I went to another dentist and was charged for the time taken to rectify these rough edges of the fillings as I was told Dr Hovey had not buffed them down sufficiently. All in all, I was unimpressed by the care Dr Hovey provided and would not recommend her at all.
Marieta and her team provide exceptionally warm and professional dentistry and service. My family actually enjoy our regular visits to the dentist where we are welcomed with big smiles and treated to excellent service. Highly recommended.

Absolutely the most easiets and comfortable experience i have ever had with a dentist. Dr Hovey was lovely and calming and the girls were really supportive after my wisdom teeth removal. will never go any where else
